March Meeting 2026 Fulham Pier

The third gathering of the London Venue Operators Network took place at Fulham Pier on 26 March, bringing together a diverse cross-section of venue and event operators from across London to network, share experiences, and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

Hosted within the impressive new Fulham Pier development, the meeting began with a keynote address from Chris Wickham, who outlined the vision behind creating a destination that operates successfully all year round, rather than solely on matchdays. The concept focuses on maximising the use of high quality spaces throughout the week, while seamlessly integrating matchday activity when Fulham FC are playing at home.

The setting itself provided a powerful demonstration of this approach in action. With favourable weather on the day, the riverside walk and ground floor public areas were visibly busy, with visitors enjoying the cafés, bars, and food outlets. Dog walkers, runners, families, and local residents were all making use of the facilities, illustrating the value of creating a venue that serves the community daily.

A central theme of the Hot Topic discussion was how venues can generate consistent non-event income and create year-round engagement with their local communities. Attendees explored both the opportunities and the practical considerations involved in developing such initiatives. These included health and safety requirements, security and crowd management, access and egress planning, the implications of Martyn’s Law, sustainability and environmental responsibilities, operational and staffing models, capital investment decisions, and the need to demonstrate a clear return on investment.

The meeting benefited from open and constructive contributions from a wide range of operators, each bringing practical insight from their own venues and events.

This collaborative approach remains a defining feature of the London Venue Operators Network, ensuring that knowledge and solutions are shared.

The day included a guided tour of the venue, allowing attendees to explore the breadth of facilities available at Fulham Pier. These included high quality restaurants, hospitality and conferencing spaces, the auditorium, hotel accommodation, and the vibrant public domain areas on the ground floor.

The event finished with informal networking at the venue’s Thames Bar, generously hosted by Fulham Pier, providing an opportunity for further discussion and relationship building among attendees.

Thanks to all those attended representing a cross section of London venues including AELTC, Hurlingham Club, Lords, The Conduit, Brentford FC, Allianz Twickenham, Harlequins, London Stadium, Fulham Pier and AFC Wimbledon.

The next London Venue Operators Network meeting is scheduled for 1 October, at another iconic venue, and there is strong anticipation for another well attended session featuring the same level of insight, collaboration, and professional exchange.
